Adjustable/Separated Keyboards
Adjustable split keyboards allow you to adjust the centre height of the keyboard. This adjustment is commonly referred to as “tenting”. The adjustment helps produce a more ergonomic keyboard arrangement in that it reduces the amount of pronation (hands turned palms down) required to type.
Different manufacturers have developed different ways to achieve this height adjustment. In all cases the keyboard has been split into at least two halves. Some manufacturers provide continuously variable adjustment while others allow adjustment to fixed positions and angles. Another variation is that some adjustable keyboards are permanently attached to either a central pivot or base, while others are connected only with a cable. Each arrangement offers varying degrees of adjustment flexibility and stability.
For those who prefer non-adjustable "split" keyboards check out the Fixed-Split Keyboard page.
